Volunteer Programs Handbook Habitat for Humanity /Asia Pacific                        Form 25: On the Road To Becoming A Habitat Youth Organization Steps To Starting A Campus Chapter Or Community Youth Group 1 Meet with the local Habitat affiliate closest to you. Discuss ways the affiliate and your group can  partner. Get a brief overview of the plans and activities of the affiliate for the academic year  (building days, fund‐raising plans and other community events), and ask how you can help the  affiliate beyond building.    2 Experience building on a weekend or during school breaks if there is a local affiliate nearby or go  on a Global Village trip, if no building opportunities are available in your country, before taking  the next step.    3 Identify a core group of students/youth who would be dedicated to starting the chapter. They will  work with the Habitat contact to complete the application process.    4 Choose one person to have the role of the chapter adviser. For a campus chapter, it should be from  the faculty, staff or administration of your school and for a community youth group, it should be a  staff or board member of Habitat Affiliate.    5 Complete the application forms and submit to the affiliate or Habitat National Office for approval.     6 Hold an activity/meeting to generate interest in your campus or community and recruit new  members. Personally invite other like‐minded organizations such as Interact Rotary Club, Honors’  Society, campus and religious or
