Evaluation of a Reading Achievement Test
I. Introduction
The report is based on an achievement test paper taken by Xinghua college of Ningxia University.. The purpose of the test is to check whether the students have reached the teaching objectives according to the new standard English for China’s college students which are edited by Ningxia University Press. Altogether 26 students took the test and they must finish the test in two hours. All the papers are marked by teachers .
II. Evaluation on the Total level.
On the whole, the paper covers two types of tests---objective items and subjective items, of which objective items cover 70 marks and subjective items cover 30 marks. The full marks are 100.
The Structure And Content of the Paper
The paper is designed according to the new standard in Xinghua college which has been put into practice in 2005. It seems that this set of paper follows the mode of the traditional paper since it is made up of four parts: Reading ,Translation ,Fill in the blanks ,Grammar and writing. But in fact it’s very different from the old one. The differences lies in the following aspects:1)In the reading section, the four passages require the testeees to answer according to the understanding ;2)the designer omitted the fill in the blank items which have been used for many years;3)the testees’ grammar knowledge is tested through filling the blanks in a passage;4)the new item information match is added to reading comprehension ;5)the traditional item errors correction in a passage is omitted;6)the writing section consists of one part---basic writing, which asks the participants must write a passage of about 150 words related to the material.
