Larson Asso ciate Professor Scho ol of Library and Information Studies University of California, Berkeley Berkeley, CA 94720 ray@ Abstract Among the prop osed innovations in the Clinton Administrations plans to develop a National Information Infrastructure is the creation of, and supp ort for, digital or electronic libraries to store and provide access to the vast amounts of information exp ected to made available over the \information sup erhighway. Although the exact nature and future architecture of such libraries is still a matter for exp erimentation (and debate), there are several pioneering eorts underway to establish electronic libraries and to provide access to them. This pap er describ es one such eort underway at the University of California at Berkeley. In collab oration with four other universities we are developing interop erable electronic library servers containing the Computer Science technical rep orts for each participant and making them available over the internet using standard proto cols. 1 Intro duction This pap er describ es the design and development of an Electronic Library for Computer Science technical rep ort literature currently under development at the University of California at Berke- ley.
