SPECTRAL ANALYSIS OF NEUTRINO MIXING MECHANISMS C N LEUNG Department of Physics and Astronomy University of Delawar e Newark DE and P I KRASTEV Institute of Field Physics Department of Physics and Astronomy The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hil l CB Phil lips Hal l Chapel Hil l NC 4 9 9 ABSTRACT 1 t c The prosp ects of using sp ectral measurements of solar neutrinos to dis O tinguish dierent mechanisms of neutrino avor mixing are analyzed The 5 mechanisms studied include the conventional mass mixing mechanism and an 2 alternative mechanism which assumes a avor nondiagonal neutrinogravity coupling 1 7 A mechanism of neutrino avor mixing was prop osed several years ago which 3 assumes that neutrinos couple to gravity in a avor nondiagonal manner Such a cou 0 1 pling constitutes a violation of the equivalence principle EP Consequently exp er 4 iments such as the solar neutrino exp eriments which measure neutrino avor mixing 9 can b e used to test whether neutrinos ob ey the EP It was shown that existing solar / h neutrino data prob ed the EP at the level of few parts in which is b etter than the p - b est limit for ordinary matter obtained from torsion balance exp eriments by more p than an order of magnitude e h In this mechanism which shall b e referred to as the Gmechanism the neutrino weak interaction or avor eigenstates are assumed to b e distinct from their gravita tional interaction eigenstates and that they can b
