PHRASAL VERBS IDIOMS “to divide by / into” To divide a number into a number e.g.: 1) divide nine by three. 2) divide 5 into 20, and that gives you 4. “to divide up / among / between” To separate into smaller parts e.g.: 1) Please divide up the cake equally. 2) The money was divided up among the sales staff. 3) the bank robbers divided up their ill gotten gains between them. Note: among and between are used when more than one party is referred to. IDIOM: 1) “to make somebody sick” To annoy or disgust somebody e.g.: The way you yell and scream at your wife just makes me sick. 2) “(to make you) sick to your stomach” This is the same as number one above. It means to annoy or disgust somebody e.g.: It makes me sick to my stomach to think how much money I lost gambling. BONUS IDIOM: “to be sick and tired of something or someone” To be completely frustrated and angry or bored and fed up with the behavior of something or monotony of something e.g.: 1) I am so sick and tired of those corrupt politicians taking bribes and lying all the time. 2) She is really sick and tired of her job; she says it’s like watching paint dry. 3) I am absolutely sick and tired of the way my boss treats me. AJESS Today, we look at some expressions that are useful when thinking about a problem or situation: In a case like this, I would recommend that you undergo chemotherapy treatment immediately. In a situation like this, since the cancer has not spread, surgery is probably not the best option of treatment. In this sort of situation, with the cancer so aggressive, its best not to wait any longer before having surgery.
