Lesson 5 Silent Spring Vocabulary tree Warm-up Please look at the pictures and say something about environmental pollution. Warm-up Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere.? These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. Warm-up Human created noise harmful to health or welfare. Transportation vehicles are the worst offenders, with aircraft, trucks, buses, automobiles, and motorcycles all producing excessive noise. Pollution refers primarily to the fouling of air, water, and land by wastes. Thus litter, billboards, and auto junkyards are said to constitute visual pollution; noise excessive enough to cause psychological or physical damage is considered noise pollution; and waste heat that alters local climate or affects fish populations in rivers is designated thermal pollution.
