14. Continental Philosophy Overview Much of contemporary literary theory, and indeed poetry, is built on nineteenth-century foundations. Read this section not only for a brief introduction to its main philosophers, but to understand Modernism and Postmodernism in context. Nineteenth-century currents of thought are still important, and may indeed provide an answer to contemporary difficulties.
