Abstract In the history of literature, Liaozhaizhiyi has the research value. Liaozhaizhiyi is important and useful. Liaozhaizhiyi is a classic literature work with a collection of about 500 stories by Pu Songling of the Qing Dynasty about three hundred years ago.The research On the Liaozhaizhiyi is helpful to deepen the understanding of this book. Liaozhaizhiyi ,as the peak of ancient Chinese short story, has irreplaceable research value in the history of literature.There was not an isolated phenomenon for this book’s appearance. Liaozhaizhiyi’s text was a concentration of earlier works with similar subject matter. To discuss and to sort out the inherited relationship of Liaozhaizhiyi and those works can not only clear the developmental trace of novel history, but also can deepen the understanding of Liaozhaizhiyi. The essay focuses on discussions about Liaozhaizhiyi’s artistic forms, subject matters, character images and its stories’ inheritance and development of ancient Chinese narrative literature, with the research method of comparative analysis. On the aspect of artistic form, this essay mainly talks about the old writing style- inherited and innovative narrative art, story regulations and formats, and orientation of aesthetics of Liaozhaizhiyi. Pu Songling, the writer of Liaozhaizhiyi wants to express the switch of Liaozhaizhiyi’s narrative points, the combination of narrative angles of view, the installation of narrative format and the use of narrative images to his readers.
