* Ostrovsky (1904 ~ 1936), he was born in 1904, in the village of Viliya, Ostrozhsky District, Rovno Region. His father was a seasonal worker, but earnings were so meagre that his mother and young sisters had to work as agricultural labourers on landed estates. His elder brother was apprenticed(学徒) to a locksmith（锁匠） who maltreated（虐待） his workers. Because of poor family, he only studied for three years,and began work at 10. In August 1919 he ran away from home and joined the Red Army, proving himself to be a valiant fighter. In 1920, he was injuried seriously in a fierce battle , leading to his right eye injuried and lost 80% of the vision(视力), after which he transferred to the rear(后方) to keep working. In 1929, he was paralyzed（瘫痪）and blind, completely losting his ability, but he did not go dark. In 1930, he used his combat(战斗) experience as material, to start writing the novel 《How does steel come into being 》. By the end of 1927,while fighting with the disease, he created《storm by the birth》, Unfortunately，the only manuscript（手稿） was lost , but The cruel blow（打击） did not defeat his strong will. How the Steel Was Tempered is Nikolai Ostrovsky’s autobiographical（自传体的） novel, the only book he ever completed before his life was cut tragically（悲惨地） short by illness at the age of 32 in 1936. This book tells the hero Pavel Korchagin, struggling at the bottom from society in his youth, has grown into a life-long proletarian (无产的）revolutionary fighter for the motherland and the people . Paul has been a young clerk, bullied(欺负） by others，various twists and turns in the smoke of the battlefield, struggled with death. After revolutionary victory ,he put all his heart into the national development . In the process, Paul has shown a real proletarian revolutionary （革命的）fighter, possesing the perseverance（坚持不懈）, courage, noble（高尚） and selfless devotion（无私奉献） character. He put their precious youth to the party and the people. In the case of general paralysis,he still h
