I Abstract In this thesis, we make use of the knowledge of semigroups and universal alge- bras to investigate the partially ordered semigroups and ASL-semirings, i.e., semir- ings with a semilattice additive reduct. This thesis is made up of four chapters. In chapter 1, we introduce the basic notations about semigroups and Green’s relations on a semigroup. In chapter 2, we investigate the semilattice congruence of partially ordered semigroups and regular commutative partially ordered semigroups, characterize the least semilattice congruence on a semigroup satisfying the identity xya ≈ yxa and axy ≈ ayx, and give a negative answer to Kehayopulu’s open problem.
