Modeling Frac-Packs and Fracture Propagation in Poorly
Consolidated Sands
Ruben Juanes and Mukul M. Sharma
The University of Texas at Austin
1. Problem Statement and Objectives
Frac-pack operations have been used extensively for sand control and production
stimulation in medium-to-high permeability, unconsolidated or poorly consolidated
rocks. The goal of this operation is to bypass formation damage around the wellbore, and
to mitigate sand production problems. While current models for frac-pack design employ
linear elastic fracture mechani
