In this paper, we bring forward a cross-cultural perspective to the research and comparison between the financial reporting in China Daily and Wall Street Journal Asia, so as to trace back to the cores of Chinese and American cultures which have led to the two papers’ different styles and news values of financial reporting. Wall Street Journal, known as the world’s leading business publication, has set a prime example for the world’s financial newspapers. A thorough study on Wall Street Journal’s financial reporting, whether regarding it’s business writing style or it’s special focus on human angle, could help us find new ways to improve China Daily’s or the broader Chinese press’ foreign-oriented financial reporting skills because, in the end, a better understanding of American readers will make Chinese voices better heard in the world business market. In short, the paper is aimed at finding a way to combine China’s and US financial reporting based on a better understanding of cultural traditions in both China and US.
