The“Slow City”project plans to preserve the rich cultural，culinary(烹饪的)and artistic local traditions of each community.Squares and darks will be made greener with more plants，car alarms and other sources of noise will be banned，and ugly TV aerials(天线)and advertising posters will be taken down. City councils will also encourage the use of recycling and renewable energy sources，and will introduce ecological transport systems.Parking will be made stress-free through more public parking areas，and walkways and bike lanes(车道)will cross the city. But following the principles of“Slow City”，all these improvements will probably come about s-l-o-w-l-y.The project was born from the“Slow Food”movement，started in Italy in the 1980s，which encourages slow eating and the growing of local，healthy products instead of American fast food and industrial crops. The thirty-two Italian city councils that initially joined the“Slow City”program have decided to take further steps by increasing the numbers of traditional family-style restaurants，reducing noise pollution，and concentrating on making their towns more relaxing and people-friendly. Organic local produce will be encouraged in all restaurants and genetically modified foods will be forbidden.“We can’t stop large fast-food chains from coming here，but we hope that people who come to our towns will not want to eat exactly the same hamburgers they can eat in Melbourne，London or Paris，but want something healthy and different，”says Satumini.
