WILTSHIRE POLICE Job Description Post Title: Dog Training Instructor Department: People Development Post Number: New Work Location: HQ Grade: W8 Security Vetting Level: SC Responsible to: Sgt Chief Firearms Instructor Date : June 2012 Reporting Structure:  Dog Training Instructor Job Purpose To plan, develop and deliver role specific training to General Purpose Dog Handlers, Passive and Proactive Drug Dog Handlers and Explosive Search Dog Handlers. Main Responsibilities Plan, develop and deliver initial training to prospective dog handlers, in line with ACPO guidelines.. Plan, develop and deliver training interventions to operational police dog handlers as required by the organisation. Plan, develop and deliver dog specific training for GPD and specialist dogs. . Ensure accurate training and accreditation records are maintained in line with force protocols. Liaise with the Chronicle Administrator to maintain accurate training records within Chronicle to ensure accreditation is documented. Work with the Training Manager to develop bespoke training intervention and action plans where appropriate, to ensure standards are maintained with the operational effectiveness of the police dog teams.. Review suitability of prospective working dogs by assessing whether they are appropriate to be trained as police dogs. Work collaboratively with regional colleagues with standardisation of training and licensing packages. To run on dog(s) when required to ensure Operational resilience.
