UK email g.f.clough@soton.ac.uk Tel: 02380 794292 Summary At present it is uncertain how day to day variation in physical activity levels, influence blood glucose in people with type 1 diabetes. We can now study this scientific question because sophisticated light, user-friendly physical activity monitoring devices have been manufactured and are licensed and validated for measuring physical activity energy expenditure. We will lend volunteers a device which they wear around their upper arm like a watch with an elasticated band. Volunteers can sleep wearing the device and this device allows us to monitor the amount of energy burnt up through physical activity levels. We will then precisely assess physical activity levels in relation to capillary blood glucose levels. People with type 1 diabetes measure their capillary blood glucose concentrations routinely as part of their monitoring glucose control. In addition to this we w
