GRIN CITY COLLECTIVE RESIDENT GUIDELINES Grin City is dedicated to the creation of original, innovative art works of all disciplines by providing artists with interdisciplinary, collaborative experiences, creative space and new audiences through its residency and public programming. In order to facilitate this purposeful community, we ask that you follow certain guidelines to ensure the wellbeing of every participant. Please read the following prior to your arrival. An Average Week at Grin City: REGULAR SESSIONS Life at a Collective is a lot what it sounds like, with a lot of collaborative work and social time. Artists attend Grin City in three-week blocks. They may stay for up to two blocks (six weeks). During each of these three-week blocks, an artist chooses one of three outreach levels to participate in: Social Practice Outreach Residents work together on a predetermined creative project for 12 to 15 hours a week (there is a different project every 3 weeks). Garden Outreach Residents work in our on-site organic farm, Middle Way Farm, learning the ins and outs of Iowa agriculture for 12 hours a week. Residents may also select the option of no outreach to dedicate the majority of their time to their private practice. Once a week ALL ARTISTS are expected to participate in a half hour cleaning session to keep our residency in good condition, as well as a weekly potluck where we welcome the community to tour our studios. To ensure that artists learn a little about the land on which they are staying, all artists are also asked to participate in one day of garden work for each 3-week block they are in residence. Apart from the Friday potluck, artists are responsible for their own meals. Other optional events are also scheduled such as skill shares and informal critiques.
