(knowledge ) (2) Be skilled at dealing with enquiry correspondences ( ability) (3) Flexibly make enquiries with sellers( competence) II Difficult points: (1) how to compose a proper enquiry (2) how to make an enquiry I Definition Categories 1. Definition: An enquiry is request for information about the goods , including catalogues, samples , prices, payment terms, delivery etc. 2. Enquiries are generally made/sent by buyers/importer to sellers/exporters after seeing an advertisement in newspaper or visiting a trade fair. 3.Enquiries may be made by post, fax, e-mail, even telephone or through face-to-face talk. II Three Major Categories 1. First enquiry An enquiry sent to supplier /exporter that importers have not previously dealt with. It begins by telling how importers obtained the name of the company and then the importer makes a brief introduction of his own business. 2. General Enquiry An enquiry made to get the general information about the goods. In the general enquiry, the importer may only ask for catalogues, price lists, samples, or other information from the importer. 3.Specific Enquiry An Enquiry made to get detailed information about the goods such as price terms of payment, delivery etc. concerning the particular goods the importers are interested in. III Identify Sample Enquiries Sample 1 Dear Sirs,We visited your stand at the Milan fair last October and we were interested in your leather boots. We are wholesalers in the north of England and we think your articles could find a promising marketing in our area.We would be very pleased to receive your catalogue and price list. Let us also have your sales terms for large orders. If your prices and terms meet our requirements, we will be glad to start a business relationship with you. We look forward to receiving an early reply. Yours faithfully,John Carter
