Vitamin K Protocol /groups/VitaminK Homeostasis The goal of the Vitamin K protocol is to move the children to a condition of homeostasis. “Homeostasis” means “balance” – when our bodies are balanced, they can adapt to changes in the internal or the external environment. In a condition of homeostasis we can, for example, maintain the appropriate internal pH and temperature, detoxify, eat a variety of foods without responding, and defend ourselves against micro-organisms. What the Vitamin K Protocol Accomplishes pH control – assisting the body in excreting acid so that pH normalizes. Rehydration – getting water into the cells so they can detoxify and function properly. Metabolic improvement - Boosting cell signaling and immune function with the fat soluble vitamins. It will take 4 to 6 months to get your child fully adjusted to the vitamins and past the detoxification that the electrolyte drink initiates. At that point, intensive anti-microbial therapy is appropriate. Baking Soda Baths and Sea Salt Baths Use 8 cups baking soda per bath. Every 3rd or 4th bath, use 2 cups sea salt instead of baking soda. Baths can be given daily or twice daily if helpful. Purpose: absorption of bicarbonate or salt for kidney function and pH management. Baking soda is available in 12-pound bags at Costco and Sam’s Club. Electrolyte Drink These recipes are modifications to the “classic” recipe of glucose, salt, and bicarbonate. Potassium chloride is used instead of salt, lowering the sodium content and adding potassium which balances the electrolytes. Honey, grape juice, or young coconut water supply the glucose. Purpose: hydration at the cellular level. The glucose and the sodium are absorbed across the intestines and into the cells, pulling water across the membranes into the cells.
