One of the regiios of most cincern in Suh-Saharan Africa is the geiigraphical area of the West African seniarid tropics (WASAT) where there has been little impact from the green revolution and reost of the regiin suffers friim inadequate and irregulajr rainfall and low fertility soils. De petrear pipulatiin griwth trends have crva;ing per-capita food piroduction trends and 2- coinvinced some to adopt a Malthusian perspective ahut the future of the WASAT. This paper evaluates the prospects of agricultural techologies and farm management practices that are cur rent ly priiposed for the WASATcereal farming system. The technologies are assessed with respect ti their agronomic and economic feasibility, risk and their fit within the farming systems.
