How should I greet thee? ? ??With silence and tears. John Keats (31 October 1795?– 23 February 1821) Born in London, was an English Romantic poet. Along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, he was one of the key figures in the second generation of the Romantic movement, despite the fact that his work had been in publication for only four years before his death. Although apprenticed to a surgeon, he was not at all enthusiastic in this profession and then gave up medicine for writing. He died of tuberculosis and was buried in Rome, Italy, with his epitaph being “Here lies one whose name is writ in water”. In his short life time, his work received harsh criticism, but his reputation grew after his death. His reputation grew to the extent that by the end of the 19th century he had become one of the most beloved of all English poets. He has had a significant influence on a diverse range of later poets and writers. With the publication of Richard Monkton Milne’s Life, Letters and Literary Remains of John Keats in 1848, Keats’s reputation as a great poet was established. Keats’s poetry is characterized by intense imagination, sensuous imagery, and elaborate word choice. His odes are regarded as masterpieces and are very popular in English literature. His works have immensely influenced among others the Pre-Raphaelites, Oscar Wilde, and Alfred Tennyson. To Autumn The work was composed on 19 September 1819 and published in 1820 in a volume of Keatss poetry and is the final work in a group of poems known as Keatss 1819 odes. Although he had little time throughout 1819 to devote to poetry because of personal problems, he composed To Autumn after a walk near Winchester one autumnal evening.
