Linking Depressed Earnings to Adolescent Depression Abstract In this study, I a alyze empirically the ways in which adolesce t depression depresses earni gs in you g adulthood. I test the promine t assertio s that adolesce t depression is predictive of you g adult depressio and of lower educatio al attainme t, both of which are, in turn, predictive of lower earni gs. I then expand upon the curre t literature by testi g the assumption that those depressed in adolescence would benefit from stayi g in school. To that end, I first estimate the relatio ship between adolesce t depression and retur s to educatio . Since one releva t alter ative to educatio al attainme t is work experience, I then estimate the relatio ship between adolesce t depression and retur s to work experience. Fi ally, I compare the retur s to educatio al attainme t with the retur s to work experience for individuals depressed in adolescence relative to the retur s for their non-depressed pe
