It has a lot of information and is extremely informative. This slide is based on an RSI study of the Marcellus Gas shale. About this slide: Young’s Modulus is an expression of brittleness. The left panel is a scatter plot of Dynamic Poisson’s Ratio vs. Static Young’s Modulus. (Note that the static-dynamic PR transform is almost 1:1, so static PR is almost equal to dynamic PR). PR is of less significance in this plot because most of the variation is in YM. Higher values of Young’s Modulus are indicative of more brittle rock, lower of more ductile. The colors of polygons are the same as the shaded color in the tracks on the right – so light blue is brittle, yellow is ductile. Scatter plot is augmented with extra 3 wells over same interval in same area as the well on the right. This is so there are enough data points in the cross-plot to make it statistically relevant (data points only cover depths from 6000 to 6500). The right panel shows the following: Stratigraphy, from top to bottom - -- Tully limestone and marl (marl is lower 2/3) -- Marcellus Shale, upper is intercalated clay/high TOC and quartz shales, limestone streak above Marcellus A top. Rigidity decreases mid Marcellus, Young’s dropping/Poisson’s climbing. -- Onondaga is the hardest and is a limestone with a chert below it. Tracks - -- Left track is Volume Fraction and identifies the lithologic components of the strat column. TOC is shaded in orange for easy visibility. -- Middle track is Static Young’s Modulus, generated using transforms. FYI for you only: This example used a transform from an SPE 2010 paper that describes a dynamic to static correction which covers the entire range from soft to hard (previously published transforms do not cover the full soft-hard range).
