After the video, ask if the supplier is performing any Layered Process Audits. Layered Process Audits applies to all areas of the plant. This is not a Quality audit, it must be owned and driven by manufacturing. An operator or auditor should spend about 5 minutes per machine performing Layered Process Audits. A supervisor should not spend more than 20 minutes performing their Layered Process Audits. Any manager can perform Layered Process Audits: Materials, Purchasing, Accounting. The audit cannot be a paperwork audit. One of the benefits of this audit is the communication that occurs when middle and upper management discuss checklist items with operators. The chart shows that the same area will be audited 3 times on Wednesday. Discuss how the supplier responds to nonconformances found during audits. There are different levels of reactions and the auditor must understand what to do. The procedure must address when to escalate the reaction. This tracking form will build a distribution diagram.
