* These are examples of wire map failures displayed by the DSP Cable Analyzer. Note that the Split pair that swaps wires of two pairs also indicates that excessive crosstalk was measured during the test. Simple or cheap wire map testers cannot accomplish the split pair test as it requires some measurement of signal coupling or crosstalk testing between pairs. * When the NEXT loss is also measured from the “far end” of the Channel, the failure is properly detected. Now the NEXT measurement will yield only 24 dB at 62.5 MHz. As the attenuation did not play a role in this measurement The limit for a category 5 link at this frequency is 30.6 dB and to pass, the result has to be larger than the limit. Remember “more cross-talk loss” or higher dB numbers are better. Key: Certification requires that the NEXT test be performed from both ends. The DSP Cable Analyzer does this without swapping main and remote units. * ELFEXT is simply the difference between the FEXT signal and the attenuated signal at the receiver. ELFEXT is simply how much the FEXT signal is present compared to the attenuated signal. ELFEXT = FEXT - attenuation and is an indicator of the signal to noise ratio a 100Base-T receiver can expect. ELFEXT is like ACR: ACR = NEXT - attenuation and was an indicator of the signal to noise ratio a 100Base-T receiver could expect. Generally, the requirements related to FEXT will be stated in terms of ELFEXT. ELFEXT stands for “Equal Level Far End Crosstalk”. The words “Equal Level” are used to indicate that all FEXT signals are to be considered with the same attenuation. No matter where a crosstalk contribution occurs in the link, it is always attenuated by roughly the same amount. Cross-talk from multiple pair or “disturbers” results in performance requirements in terms of “Power Sum”. * When the length test is performed on each pair, the period of time it took for the pulse to travel down and back on the cable pair was measured, calculated and the result w
