All these give the damage assessment of complex structures such asbridges a still challenging task for bridge engineers.This paper firstly presents the definition of structural health monitoring system and its components.Then, the focus of the discussion is placed on the following sections:① the laboratory and field testing research on the damage assessment;②analytical developments of damage detection methods, including (a)signature analysis and pattern recognition approaches, (b)model updating and system i- dentificatio
