CSU for example did a study that showed there is a direct corollary between time to graduation and retention. So both recruiting and retention are important for an institution’s success. Wireless network access plays an important role in that. A big revenue stream was lost when students switched from land line phones (rented to them in their residence halls by the university) to cellular. They are looking for ways to replace that revenue or further drive down IT costs for delivering access to students. As laptop prices have dropped and students bring to campus not one but sometimes 3 or more wireless devices, institutions face two issues: how to manage the demand for capacity and coverage and how to protect and secure the network from viruses and unauthorized access.
