ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Ultra Wildband technology has received a lot of attention for its characteristics such as high multipath immunity, high system capacity, low power consumption, high data speed, etc. and has a broad application prospect in many fields, such as position location, radar, communication and navigation etc. UWB system uses very short pulses with time duration in nanoseconds to transmit information, which makes that signal has a wild band even with GHz band. So compared with traditional communication system, UWB system has a stronger capability of multipath separated. Therefore, Rake reception technology is used easily in receiver in order to capture more signal energy and improve system performance. Based on the Intel model approved by the IEEE 802.15.SG3a group, the performance of Rake reception is studied for TH-PPM-UWB system. First, the paper introduces UWB radio communication system and expounds the structures of all parts. Then, on the base of discussion of typical UWB signals, TH-PPM-UWB system is described and the transmitted signal of it is generated by simulated in Matlab. Then, the UWB model approved by the IEEE 802.15.SG3a group is analyzed and is realized by simulated. Finally, on the base of discussions of Rake receiver and correlation mask, the whole processing of transmitting, crossing UWB channel and Rake receiving of one bit is illustrated, and based on the UWB model, the BER (bit error rate) performance of ARake, PRake, SRake and the different numbers of SRake path for TH-PPM-UWB (Time-hopping pulse position modulation ultra wideband) system are simulated and compared.
