Limitations of a gloss meter Depending on the curvature of the measured part the reflected image of the light source will have different sizes. Consequently, the gloss values will be different. Limitations of a gloss meter The amount of reflected light intensity is dependent on material properties, such as the refractive index. A typical 1K clear coat has a higher refractive index than a 2K clear coat. Consequently a gloss meter will measure a higher gloss value - even though the 2K clear coat looks as brilliant as the 1
