It is also an effective way for people to learn English and improve their interest in English. And American humor plays a very important role in English films and television plays. People can have fun when they get the humor while if they cant the film or television play will be boring. At this moment, the translation of American humor will be extremely important. This thesis adopts Nida’s translation theory of functional equivalence as the theoretical basis of American humor translation, which emphasizes the reappearance of source message while the expression form may be changed. Thus the translation can attract more viewer effectively and produce as nearly as possible the same effect on his readers as was produced on the readers of the original. This thesis takes many examples from the subtitle translation of Two and A Half Men and analyze.
