At least 5 of the top 25 global custodians have sold or transferred custody business within the last 2 years. Changing demographics and lifestyles Baby Boomers have higher percentage of “Internet awareness” than other demographic groups Two Career families = more disposable income for retirement savings and investments Pull for Convenience and 24/7 service to meet the demands of busier lifestyles Globalization Growth in use of services over the Internet from everywhere in the world (e.g. banking and brokerage by US Expatriates) Narrowing margins Price competition across board for banking products. Commoditized products. Brokerage trade commission has eroded from $1000 to trade 1000 shares to less than $30 New non-traditional competitors The Internet has lowered the barriers to entry in certain markets. Bricks and mortar are no longer required to establish a presence. Virtual companies such as A and E*Trade have become household names.
