Resolution of our eye: Far distance ( 3 meters): We can best see structure size of approx. 10 -20 mm. Structures smaller than 1 mm we can no longer resolve as wavy light/dark pattern. Close distance ( 40 cm): At this distance we can best see short waves in the range of 1 – 3 mm and can resolve structure sizes down to 0.1 mm. Structures smaller than 0.1mm can no longer be seen as a wavy light/dark pattern. These very fine textures reduce the brilliance of the coating. A laser point light source illuminates the sample at a 60° angle and a detector measures the reflected light intensity. The instrument scans the surface and measures the reflected light intensity point by point.
