It offers a complete set of collaborative services all in one package as you can see in the outer ring this is just a sampling of the Beehive collaborative services. At its heart, is the Beehive Object Model (BOM). The BOM is a expresses all collaboration services. In essence, rather than having 1-2 services (such as email, calendar) the BOM understands about other collaborative services important to users. One key benefit from this design is a centralized repository for all of collaboration. As depicted in the diagram, the BOM can fit all within the one single database. A differentiator from typical collaboration products that require several repositories. Another key benefit from this design are the services know about each other and can take advantage of each other. An example is my presence changes to “’in a meeting” because the calendar service alerted that I had a calendar meeting at that time. Imagine that you cannot do this easily today since usually these two services are in two different packages. Finally since all these collaborative services are in one place they have shared enterprise services. For instance IT users can use one admin client to administer all of their Beehive services. In that same client, IT can easily create auditing policies that cut across all of the various services. Again, simplifying the administration and providing enterprise manageability. What is it? Business Example – Why are we so excited about this? With Microsoft, you would need 7 Servers running four different products. With IBM, you would need to run software from 3 different Lotus product lines. No other vendor offers all this in a single installation, or for that matter, all these services back-ended with a robust relational database.?
