A ceentral assumption of humanism, according to Huitt(2001), is that people act with intentionality and values. Humanists also believe that it is necessary to study the person as a whole, especially as an individual grows and develops over the lifespan. It follows that the study of the self, motivation, and goals are areas of particular interest. Humsnist language learning respects the integrity of learners, allowing for personal growth and responsibility, taking psychological and affective factors into account and representing whole-person learning. It begins as a reaction to psychoanalysis and behaviorism. It recognizes man-in-person as opposed to man-in-general, emphrasizing the human person and the individual in his wholeness and uniqueness. Carl Rogers He suggests thst humanbeings perceive their experience as reality and respond to this perceived reality in a way which helps the individual to self-actualization. Rogers studies the whole person primarily as an emotional beings and believes that the person places emphasis on what he thinks is happening and not on what in happening. Carl Rogers and others have developed the theory of facilitative learning. The basic premise of this theory is that learning will occur by the educator acting as a facilitator, that is by establishing an atmosphere in which learners feel comfortable to consider new ideas and are not threatened by external factors (Laird 1985.)
