Play a magic trick, and lead to 100yuan and make conversations with students, then lead to “healthy body is necessary for them.” Show some pictures. Let students practice the dialogs. For example: T: What’s wrong with him? Ss: He has a backache. … Let students according to the pictures give advice. Review the usage of “should/shouldn’t”. Step 2 Presentation Talk about the picture on page27 first, lead to new the words “pale” “terrible”. Listen to 1a and answer the following questions. （1）. Does Bruce feel well today? （2）. What’s wrong with Bruce? （3）. How long has he been like this? 3. Let students read 1a, pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation, then read it in roles. 4. Find out “What’s Steve’s advice to Bruce?”, lead to the phrase “ had better”. 5. Have a practice with “had better”. First, the teacher act some of the illnesses out, the students use “had better” to give some advice. Then, choose some volunteers stand up and act, the other students must give him/her some advice. Teacher write their advice on the blackboard. 6. Help students review the negative form of “should”, then lead to the negative form of “had better”. Let students change the sentences which on the blackboard into the negative form. Then check the answers. Step 3 Consolidation Let students summarize the usage of “had better” by themselves.
