An Investigation of the State of Blood Glucose Metabolism among permenant inhabitant in Pudong New District of Shanghai [Abstract|： Background：The trend of rampant prevalence of diabetes mellitus has got attention of the world．Abnormal glucose metabolism is the main characteristic of diabetes mellitus and an important cause of diabetic chronic complications．We conducted a cross—sectional study among inhabitant in Pudong new district of Shanghai with fasting blood glucose(FBG)，post-challenge blood glucose(PBG)and coefficient of blood glucose variability(CVao)as parameters．0bjeetive：To investigate the state of blood glucose metabolism and its correlations to several factors(i．e．age，BMI，WHI，SBP,DBP)．Methods：The CROSS—sectional study was performed which included questionnaire investigation，general examination and 759 oral glucose tolerance test．Description and analysis used SPSS l 1．0 statistical software．The significant P was at the O．05 leveI(two-tailed test)．Results：The 1 628 subjects of 4 communities in Pudong new district of Shanghai included 523 men and 1105 women，aged 15-90 years．The standardized prevalence Of each type of abnormal blood glucose metabolism were respectively：I-IGT(1solated IGT，FBG 6．1mmol／l，and PBG≥7．8retool／l andU．1mmol／1)12．38％；I-WG(1solated IFG， FBG6．1 mmol／l and7．0mmol／l，and PBG7．8mmol／1)3．1 2％；IFG／IGT(combined IFG and IGn 2．42％；I-F-DM(Isolated Fasting—DM，FBG_7．0mmol／l，and PBG 11．1mmol／1)1．90％；IPH(Isolated post·challenge hyperglycemia)or I-2h—DM (Isolated 2h·DM，FBG7．0mmol／l，and PBG三1 1．1mmol／1)I．54％；F／2h—DM (FBG_7．0mmol／l and PBG_I 1．1mmol／1)2．73％；PCH(post—challenge hyperglycemia) or 2h—DM(PBGI 1．1 mmol／1)4_27％；DM of 1 999 WHO criteria(FBG_7．0mmol／l or PBGI 1．1mmol／1)6．17％，IGT(FBG7．0mmol／l，and PBG7．8mmol／1 and 11．Immol／11 14．80％．Blood glucose level increased along with advancing of age． especially PBG，which increased significantly along with advancing of decades after 30 years．and correlated to age，obesity,blood pressure more strongly than FBG
