The Life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Born in Portland, Maine in 1807. His study at Bowdoin College in 1822—25, a classmate of Nathaniel Hawthorne. He excelled at languages. Upon graduation, he was offered a place as professor of modern languages at his Alma Mater. His first European tour 1826--29 in France, Spain, Italy, and Germany, with the purpose of qualifying himself for a professorship offered by Bowdoin. I. The Life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 4.
