Admittedly, we, human beings, must realize the importance of sustainability that is the capacity to endure. As a fact, sustainability is the long-term maintenance of well being, which has environmental, economic, and social dimensions, and encompasses the concept of stewardship, the responsible management of resource use. For more than 100 years, people have proved that operating with the long-term view in mind is not only possible, but essential. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (WCED, 1987, p.54) GSK GlaxoSmithKline is one of the worlds leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, who are headquartered in the UK. According to GSK GlaxoSmithKline’s sustainability report, this essay focuses on the extent of the sustainability report to the GRI’s Sustainability Guidelines G3, the assurance of the sustainability report and the positive effect to the GSK GlaxoSmithKline through analyzing the business sustainability reporting. GSK is a global organization with offices in over 100 countries and major research centers in the UK, USA, Belgium and China. Their challenging and inspiring mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer. Under the mission, they develop innovative medicines and products to help millions of people around the world. They help developing countries where debilitating disease affects millions of people and access to life-changing medicines and vaccines is a problem. They are on
