Who is better in social development: The only Child or child with siblings? Abstract This study observes and investigates the tendency of age-related changes in the differences in social development between only child and child with siblings. It suggests that absence of communication with siblings and abundance of mutual interaction with parents are the main causes of the differences in social development at different stage between the only child and child with siblings. This study draws on specific theory and nonspecific theory to analyze relevant empirical studies. This study improves and reconstructs the prevenient theory about changes in social development between the two groups at different ages. It draws on survey data of 904 students sampled in a college in Shandong Province conducted by Political and Social Development Institute of Industrial and Commercial Institute in Shandong in 2009. Meanwhile, stratified random sampling process and questionnaire-survey is used to empirically and quantitatively measure the differences in social development between only child and child with siblings. This study proposes a theory that differences in social development between the two groups decrease before the period of secondary school level of social development of child with siblings seems higher , remain unchanged in the period of secondary and senior high school, and increase after this period level of social development of only child exceeds child with siblings .
