The universal language Ellipsis is used when we do not want to repeat words or phrases that are obvious. Some words of a sentence can be left out while the meaning can still be understood. 省略常见的几种情况是： 1.状语从句中的省略 由 when ,while,if,as if,though,until,once,unless等词引导的状语从句中，当主从句的主语一致时且从句中的谓语动词含有be 则常将从句中的主语和动词be 省略，有时从句的主语是 it ，也可省略。 If it is necssary ,we shall send a telegram home. 如有必要，我们就往家里打个电报 3.省略冠词（副词最高级前的定冠词） He writes the most carefully in his group. 4.省略介词 一些与动词，名词或形容词一起搭配的介词常省略，而保留其后的动名词 常见句型有： have difficulty/trouble in doing sth. be busy in doing sth. stop/prevent /discourage sb/sth from doing sth 1 .There was much difficult in finding your house 2 .I have studied English for five years. 3 .Trees can prevent the earth from being washed away. 5.定语从句与名词性从句中的省略 （1）在限制性定语从句中，作宾语用的关系代词whom,which,that可省略；在以the same …as和such as引出的某些定语从句中，也可省略与主句相同的部分。 1.The girl who/whom/that the teacher spoke to is Li Yan. 2.I don’t like such books as this is . 在定语从句中，如果谓语是被动式，可省略主语和助动词be等 The goods which were ordered last month haven’t arrived yet. 省略连词that 宾语从句中，当有两个以上并列宾语从句时，第一个that可省，以后的均不可省 。 He said that he would come and that I should wait for him at the station.
