Warming –up activities 1. Background knowledge EQ: the short form for “emotional quotient”, which means the ability to manage ourselves and our relationship effectively----consists of four fundamental capacities: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and social skill IQ: the abbreviation for “intelligence quotient”, a measurement of a person’s intellectual ability in relation to that of the rest of the population. 2. Signs of High EQ or Low EQ Listed below are general characteristics of people with high or low EQ. Now try to identify them. Tickle before a sign of high EQ. √Expresses his/her feelings clearly and directly with sentences beginning with I feel ... or I feel like …”. Often begins sentences with I think you …”. √ Let his/her feelings lead him to healthy choices and happiness. √ Acts out of desire, not because of duty, guilt, force or obligation. √Not motivated by power, wealth, status, fame, or approval. √Be able to read non-verbal (非言语) communications. Doesnt take responsibilities for his/her feelings; but blames others for them. √Not dominated by negative emotions such as fear, worry, guilt, shame, embarrassment, disappointment, hopelessness, powerlessness, dependency, discouragement. Avoids responsibilities by saying things like: What was I supposed to do? I had no choice!”. √ Be intrinsically(本身的) motivated. √Being independent, self-reliant and morally autonomous. ?Frequently feels inadequate, disappointed, resentful(愤恨的), bitter or victimize
