Teaching Objectives:
Help students have a closer look at their family relationships
Enable students to describe the subtle relationships between family members
Teaching Materials:
Course book
PowerPoint: C5 --- Family Relationship

Teaching Procedures:
I Family Relationships
1.Asks students to write down what “family” means to them.
2. Discussion
1) How will you describe the relationships in your family? (e.g. parents-child relationship, brotherly relationship, etc.)
2) What kind of problems do you find often exist in family relationships? Please illustrate with examples.
3.Activity 3 --- Students watch a video clip and share their views
II “We Talk about Family”
1.Students read the sample article and share their feelings on it.
2.Ask students to find out in the sample a number of delicate descriptions with which a person’s feeling or psychological state is revealed.
III How to “Describe” Feelings?
1. Teacher gives examples on how to describe feelings
e.g. Instead of saying “He is sad because he is dying.”, the author described “He pulled his lips together, closed his eyes, and I watched the first teardrop fall down the side of his cheek.”
2. Asks some students to “describe” one kind of feeling in words; other students guess out the feeling described.
IV Homework --- Write a composition of about 300 words to show your ideas and feelings about relationship(s) in your family

本任务的范文选摘自Mitch Albom著“Tuesdays with Morrie” ,这本书写的是作者Mitch本人重访他二十年前的老师Morrie,一位因疾病正步入人生尽头的老人。Mitch每个周二都来到Morrie的书斋里探访,聆听老师对人生的教诲。所选这一章以细腻,深沉的笔触激发人们对家庭、亲情、和人生的思考。欣赏完范文后,要求学生写一篇文章联系自己来谈对亲情的感悟。
