CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE Engl 1301 Composition I Instructor: Cheryl Easly Phone 439-1419 c_easly@ Introduction: English 1301 is the first semester of freshman English and is designed to meet the first semester English requirement for students transferring to a senior college or for students desiring the general education of the first two years of college.? The course aims primarily at helping students develop skills and techniques necessary for writing effective expository prose.? Emphasis is placed on sentence structure, word choice, paragraph development, and organization of the whole paper.? Analysis of selected expository prose is used to guide students in their writing.? The main goal of English 1301 is to establish a level of competency in students use of language that will enable them to communicate effectively in an educated society.? Specific objectives in the pursuit of this goal include the ability to organize thoughts into effective sentences, sentences into paragraphs, and paragraphs into logical, coherent compositions that effectively communicate ideas to readers. Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: ● Improve writing skills to enable students to communicate effectively in an educated society ● Organize thoughts into effective sentences ● Organize sentences into paragraphs ● Organize paragraphs into logical, coherent compositions that effectively communicate ideas to readers ● Practice the research methods that are required in many college courses Additionally, the instructor believes you will be able to: ● Appropriately use the MLA writing style format for essays and for research ● Understand the importance of expressing one’s thoughts and ideas into descriptive expository prose Instructional Materials:?
