interfacemodels
* Models Are useful in designing and analysing user interfaces relationships between elements in the interface the programming system that implements the interface users of the interface Can be implemented as a prototype to support iterative testing with users. * Three models: each provides a different perspective describe an interface in terms of objects, properties, behaviours and relationships between objects provide a framework for analysis, understanding and decision making do not need to address every aspect and feature of a system * MUST be accurate at whatever level of detail Must be under constant scrutiny and should be changed to reflect varying requirements and explain observed behaviors * User’s Conceptual model represents what the user thinks is happening and why. User interface designer’s model describes what the user is intended to experience. The programmer’s model describes the system internals used to implement the designer’s model. * * The Design Model, user model, and system image * * Is a mental image that each user subconsciously forms as he/she reacts with the system. Mental model does not necessarily reflect a situation and its components accurately; can help people predict what will happen next in a given situation. Serves as a framework for analysis, understanding and decision making. * Based on each user’s expectations and understanding of what a system provides in terms of functions and objects, how the system responds when the user interacts with it, and goals the user wants to accomplish during that interaction No two conceptual models are the same because of users’ different experiences. * To design an interface that users find predictable and intuitive when each user is approaching the interface from a different perspective. To achieve this designers should find out as much as they can about users’ skills, motivation, tasks and expectations. This involves task analysis, surveys, user requirements lists, incorporating information us
