WESTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL The Community Service Learning Program The Community Service Learning Program provides a way for a student to earn school credit while performing volunteer community service. The Community Service Program offers students a chance to learn by contributing their time and talents to a community group or organization. The program is open to all students at Westview High School. ? Students will receive 0.5 elective credit for 60 hours of Community Service and 1.0 elective credit for 120 hours of Community Service. Students may earn a maximum of 1.0 elective credit for community service during all four years of high school. ? Students have a school year and a summer (12 months) to accumulate their 60 hours for each 0.5 elective credit. Service completed during the summer will be credited toward the following school year, provided the student and parent contract has been turned in and the arrangements are approved in advance. ? Credit will be given upon completion of all requirements. Written assignments must be turned in by the deadline. All volunteer work is to be documented by you and signed by your supervisor. Evaluation forms must be completed and signed. ? Some examples of a community service group or organization are listed below: o Audubon Society- habitat and trail restoration o Beaverton Police Department- serve on youth peer court o Cedar Mill Library- shelve books o Children’s Museum- monitor kids, help with events, crafts o Loaves Fishes- kitchen help, help w/ decorations/events for seniors o Legacy Good Sam Hospital- Teen Volunteer Program o OHSU- hospital volunteers o OMSI- educational assistance o Oregon Food Bank- sorting and packaging food o Oregon Humane Society- feed/water, walk animals, shelter cleaning o SOLV- stream/roadside/beach clean-ups o Special Olympics- event prep and help o THPRD- outdoor/environmental clean-up o Oregon Zoo- ZooTeen program o St. Vincent Hospital- Junior Volunteer training program o Washington County Sea
