AN Excellent Example OF Teacher Training ------About Sino- America Summer English Teacher Training Program 甘肃省宁县第一中学 李俊义 During July 5- August 10, I was so lucky that I got an opportunity to participate Sino- America Summer English Teacher Training Program in 2005, in Tianshui Normal University, Gansu province. This program is hosted by Chinese Education Association For International Exchange American Language Institute / China, organized by the Department Of International co-operation Exchange, Tianshui Normal University. 10 North American experts and professors gave the lectures for more than 35 days. About 120 Chinese trainees, from Qingyang, Pingliang, Dingxi, Longnan and Tianshui cities, attended the program. On the morning of July 5, the chief leaders of Tianshui Normal University presented a short, very warm ceremony, warmly welcoming the North American professors and experts to train English teachers in China. After the ceremony, all the Chinese trainees took part in the listening comprehension test. According to the level of each trainee, our Chinese trainees were divided in 9 classes, 12---16 trainees in each class; a North American teacher headed one class, in charge of teaching and activities of each class. This training program includes 3 leading parts: Educators English, Methodology, and Culture Cultural Activities. Every morning from Monday till Friday, Educators English is the main subject in each class. This textbook is compiled by 3 American professors .One of the authors---Shirley Pauler, Ph.D.--- came to Tianshui to be our trainer. This book is made up of 74 lessons, the content is about the experiences of two Chinese teacher going to America and Canada inspecting education, living separately in one American and another Canadian family for a year.
