For so many years, the universal teaching mode applied in English teaching is the traditional mode, under which students’ enthusiasm is not high. In recent years, the teaching idea of “student-centered teaching under the guidance of teachers” gradually replaces the traditional teaching idea of “teacher as the leader”. This new teaching idea makes teachers’ role of guiding the class more prominent. It could be an effective way to put this teaching idea into practice by guiding the students to listen to English songs. The characteristics of teaching of English songs lie in its combination of English language learning and entertainment. The songs possess a good function of spirit regulation. Listening English songs in English learning can make people feel happy, in high spirits and boost in memory.
In addition, teaching of English songs can satisfy the demand of young university students’ psychology and growth. Young college students are in the stage where self-awareness is enhancing and where view of the world is being steadily formed. For English learning, they are no longer satisfied with only learning language knowledge and communication skills in college English classes. They are more eager to take language as a tool, a means to help them open the door to the unknown exotic. As an important component power of the world’s popular culture, English songs greatly meet the requirements of the students.
