演讲稿英文翻译Im honored to be here to make a presentation about translation, together with my partners: 杨英坤 and 袁银梅.Firstly, lets look at a dialogue between a foreigner and a Chinese man on the screen. The foreigner tells the Chinese man his wife is very beautiful! But the Chinese man answers .:where ,where This is a classic joke because of inproper translation .In China, people who say, “where ,where” actually want to express the meaning of modesty. So the most correct approach is that “where where” should be translated into “thank you very much”. Certainly we are not likely to make such mistakes any more. But it does show us how important it is to acquire some basic skills about translation. Now, it comes to the elementary question: what is translation? Speaking of translation, I have to mention a person, the person in the photo was yan fu .Yan fu , a famous interpreter in late Qing Dynasty, made outstanding contribution for the Chinese translation work and then he pointed out the three principles of translation, namely, faithfulness, expressiveness and eleganceIt is now pretty generally agreed, that translating the writings of the ancients is, if not the sole, at least the plainest, the shortest, and the surest means of becoming well acquainted with them and their language. It is also agreed, that a translation ought exactly to express the original; that it should neither be too free nor to servile; that it should neither deviate into long circumlocutions, which weaken the ideas, nor adhere to strictly to the letter, which debases the sentiment.After a brief introduction, let?s get back to our text book and focus on some details.
