Students will gain knowledge of story development and practical skills needed to interview, write, report and edit video news stories. Reports produced in this course will be used by the news production course to enhance newscast development. Prerequisites – JOUR/TV 2003 (news writing) RTV 3024 (video production) Course objectives: gather accurate and meaningful facts through research and interviews to produce professionally acceptable TV news reports demonstrate various ENG production techniques including camera operation, editing, audio and lighting through the use of production equipment understand various First Amendment and legal applications to the electronic news gathering process produce critical and creative news packages for television and Internet through the use of appropriate camera techniques, editing procedures and script writing develop an appreciation for diversity and multicultural considerations in news stories exercise sound news judgment and values in selecting materials for story inclusion understand ethical practice and storytelling in news Required texts and materials: Tuggle et al.
