In one possible scenario within the Prospective Memory area the assisted person uses a smart blackboard to maintain a list of grocery items that need to be bought at the supermarket. The blackboard is both written by the assisted person and read by the system, so the system can keep track of what the user plans to buy. Based on this information, the system can propose a cognitive exercise pertaining the list of shopping items. * The traditional prospective memory training exercises consist of presenting the user with a list of items that have to be memorized and recalled at determined intervals. In the COGGYM perspective the exercise contents are concretely related to real aspects of the user needs (i.e., the need to prepare the shopping list), their difficulty and frequency are decided on the basis of previous users performances. Contextualizing and personalizing the exercises enhances the training efficacy and increases the probability that the memorization strategies are employed in real-life situations. * The general architecture of COGYM is composed of several modules: The central module is the Problem Solver. This module is responsible for “deciding” the contextualized exercises to be proposed to the users. In particular it decides the type of exercise, the difficulty and frequency. For making its decision the Problem Solver receives input from 3 other modules: The user modeler, which maintains an updated information on the users (preferences, cognitive status, etc) The scenario modeler, which maintains an updated information on the environment (through the input provided by the sensors). The training knowledge repository, which contains the “traditional” cognitive training exercises, that are then personlaized for the particular case. Given this updated input, the problem solver dedice the type, the time and frequency of the excercises and proposes them to the users through the Interaction Manager.
