Briefly state the relationship between food and blood. terminology Essence (jing): the fundamental substance that builds up the physical structure and maintains body function; reproductive essence stored in the kidney Spirit (shen): spiritual activities Mind (shen): mental activities, referring to mentality, consciousness, thinking and feeling Vitality (shen): manifestations of vital functioning 精神 essence-spirit : state of mind or mood, reflection of the strength of essence, also called spirit or mind 魂 ethereal soul: the moral and spiritual part of the human being 魄 corporeal soul: the animating part of one’s mind 意 Ideation:act or power of thinking and forming ideas 志 Will:mental power by which a person can direct his thoughts and actions 先天之气 innate qi : the qi that exists from birth and is stored in the kidney, also the same as prenatal qi 后天之气 acquired qi :the qi that is acquired after birth and is formed from the food in combination with the fresh air inhaled in the lung, also the same as post-natal qi 正气 healthy qi :a collective designation for all normal functions of the human body and the abilities to maintain health, including the abilities of self-regulation, adaptation to the environment, resistance against pathogens and self-recovery from illness, the same as normal/ genuine qi 真气 genuine qi:the combination of the innate qi and the acquired qi, serving as
